Yesterday, February 20th would have been my mom's 58th birthday. She passed away December 17th, 2002. Since her passing I celebrate her birthday by doing something I know she would have loved. My mom loved antiques. I usually try to incorporate some sort of trip to a flea market or do some sort of "junking." It was her "thing" and she passed down her love for old stuff down to me.
This year I decided to take a day trip to San Luis Obispo, CA , pick up my mom's sister, my aunt, and go meet Susan Branch at her farmstand in Arroyo Grande, CA.
We had the best day! The weather was perfect, sun was shining, there were huge, billowy clouds scattered about the light blue sky and it was warm. I couldn't have planned the day better. Below are a few photos from our sweet day.
Susan Branch incorporates the American Flag in a lot of her art work. I love the American Flag.
See the clouds! Majestic!
Finally, found her market place. I have looked for her market before and was not able to find it...now I know where it is! Next time I am in SLO I will make it point to stop by again.
Me and Susan Branch! She loved my pink shirt ;) What a lovely, lovely woman. She is so kind. What a talent. I had her sign my first edition Vineyard Seasons cookbook. I had her sign on the Boston Cream Pie recipe page. What an inspiration!
What a wonderful, magical day. I have wanted to meet Susan Branch since my Aunt Susan gave me her first cookbook back in 1989. What a moment to finally meet someone who inspires you to create a beautiful life.
Happy Birthday Mom.

I can't believe you got to meet Susan Branch! That is very cool.
Oh, I **LOVE** Susan Branch!!!! Her stuff is adorable and I make it a point to get something of hers for my stepmother's bday every year. I had no idea she was so local!
Sounds like a wonderful, fantastic day, Christy, and i have no doubt that your mother played a part in it. She was with you, I have no doubt.
I know right Mel & Jamie...I got to meet her and hug her! It was a "moment" for me. She is so, so wonderful. I felt like we had known eachother forever. What an amazing woman she is. I really think she is just a very real, kind woman. She was so attentive to listen to you (knowing she has met thousands of people and heard their stories) she was genuine. Feeling pretty lucky to have been able to have that time and on my mom's bday. xoC
Look at your beautiful children!...so fun to see this, thank you Christy, was wonderful to meet you, and I did love your pink shirt! xoxo Susan
W@hat an extraordinary way to celebrate and honor your mom's memory.
I remember being entranced by Susan's style way back.
Glad you had such a blessing in the weather and in the people.
Can't beat that.
