Women, Mothers & More Politics

Tonight I got into a heated argument (which I really try to steer clear from, but my questioning and opinions got the best of me and I started ranting) regarding Palin. The women I was having the argument with are "feminists" as they called themselves. Can someone please explain what a "feminist" is? I mean really. These women are mothers, however their children are all grown and raised. They do not have little ones under foot anymore. Therefore, I felt that some of their views were a little out of touch since they no longer have small children anymore. I think that it is easy to forget how difficult it is having little ones under foot when you have moved far away from that stage of motherhood.

Basically, we were arguing Palin's ability to be VP when she has 5 children. One of which is only 4mo old. One of the women said that she will have help (nannies) & her children will be right there in the White House. hmmmm...how nice is that. To be able to afford a nanny for at least 3 of the 5 children (the oldest son is going to Iraq so I do not think he will be in need of a nanny and of course there is Bristol who is 5 mo pregnant, I guess she will need a nanny for her baby more then for herself) and be able to bring them into work everyday. Ok, I am not sure how many of you mothers out there can afford full time nannies (which brings up the whole the question---who is raising your children?) & be able to bring your children to work? I have yet to come across that perfect job. It still makes me think that Mrs. Palin is out of touch with real mothers.

Please do not get me wrong---I would love to go to work (& I did when Jett was 18 mo old. for 12mo and it was the most difficult choice I have ever made. I had to quit because Jett had some speech issues that we had to have addressed. My job was not willing to let me off the amount of time that I needed to devout to Jett's speech issues. Chris made more money then I did so it made sense for me to quit and address the issues while Chris continued to work.) However, my husband and I have decided that one of us needs to be home with our children. He makes more money then I do so it made sense for me to stay at home and sacrifice my career in order for our children to have a full time parent at home with them.
