Mother's Day Weekend

Mother's Day weekend was spent in Big Sur CA camping at Riverside Campground. We went with our friends, the Herrin's and some other extended family. It was a great time had by all. Selena and I were able to get away not once, but twice!!! We took a lovely 2 mile hike at Andrew Molera State Park on Saturday and then on Mother's Day we went to Nepenthe for brunch. We tried to go to Big Sur Inn- Deetjen's for brunch but we were one minute too late :( They close breakfast at 12:30 sharp! So if you are ever planning on going there to eat make sure you get there early. It's worth going there if you can make it. I heart Deetjen's planning on having a getaway there with hubs sometime in the near future.

In any event, in year's past for Mother's Day I have always made it my weekend to have some time to myself. My own mother has passed away and I have mixed feelings about this holiday (Father's day too but that's another session in therapy!). Now that I'm a full time mother I just want a break from the daily grind. Jettson is old enough now to make me cards and wish me Happy Mom's Day...at this point, other than a break here and there, that is all I need, a homemade card from my darling boys. Last year we did the samething... perhaps this is our new family tradition for Mother's Day, camping. While I heart camping, I don't heart all the laundry afterwards, it's going to take me at least week to get it all done!

This was an interesting discovery from hubs, he goggled Mother's Day and here is what he found out about this American holdiay--- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Jarvis you can read it here.

Here are pics from the weekend (I finally got my camera back!)

Jettson asking me questions about the River. He wanted to know everything about it---the name of the river, where all the water came from, where it's flowing---etc. We had quite the discussion.

All week he kept asking me to go camping and to the (riber) river. He was in heaven all weekend. He didn't care that the water was barely above 49 degrees and it was barely 60 degrees outside! He was happy to splash about, throw rocks and collect every stick he could find.

My boys-- doing what they love to do---freak out their mother! As you can see there is a nice little drop. Hubs was convinced that he was going to have to jump in after one of them.

Nora Herrin (23 mo.) and Owen Hadland (2.5 years). They were having so much fun talking to eachother, eating popcorn and drinking chocolate milk. Our little babies!!!

I love old windows and doors. I get goosebumps when I see them.

I love finding cool zen statues in the middle of a lush garden. I wish I was sitting in the lush garden, quiet and peaceful.

Selena and Kim (Kim is Selena's MIL) We ended up down at Cafe Kevah--Nepenthe (above the terrace) was packed. The food is just as good (if not better) at Cafe Kevah.

Selena and I
I'm grateful to have such awesome mom's in my life, you know who you are & Selena is one of those moms.

While Selena and I were on our hike we talked a lot about our lives since becoming mothers. I had this epiphany about the lives of women...we are like catapillars---we are happily inching along in life just as we are and by some biological and/or divine intervention we go through this amazing process of the chrysalis stage (pregnancy, the adoption process, rasing children) we are tansformed in to these amazing creatures called Mothers (or Butterflies)! I feel as though motherhood is transforming me in ways I could have never imagined! I would not change it for the world! I'm grateful for my continuing transformation process that is taking place daily. Jettson and Owen are the best two people to ever come into my life! They have saved me in so many ways and made me a better person. I love you Jettson and Owen---forever, Mommy.

Happy Day to all you other awesome Motherflies out there!!! xoC

Christy, a great way to spend the holiday...love camping, esp. in Big Sur, and love Deetjen's. We had our special Anniversary meal there.
I lived above Deetjen's with the girls just before we left Big Sur. Our treat was to go there and have their wonderful soup and bread.
Being a mother was designed by God to save us from our natural selfishness, and to teach us unconditional love.
You're a great example.
