As a child, I was enchanted with "Alice in Wonderland" but at the sametime it scared me. Recently I have revisited "Alice"...oddly, it still enchants and creeps me out at the sametime. I'm finding, however, that I have much in common with the Mad Hatter...I'm always late, I'm often hurried, with really no place to be...well, at least of no great importance, other than to myself and my family, which means it's very important, but by my being late puts no importance on it at all...does that make sense? This is one of my favorite quotes from the book..."No wonder you're late. Why, this watch is exactly two days slow." I'm sure this is my problem! How utterly clever! Should have thought of this along time ago...it's my watch and my clocks that are off and not me at all...well, at least the delusion puts a smile on my face.
In the spirit of Tim Burton's, "Alice in Wonderland" premiering this Friday in 3D, starring one of my very favorite actors, Johnny Dep...my theme for Spring is the Mad Hatter's Tea Party. This is the part of the story that has always enchanted me! The Tea Party!! I have been decorating like a silly rabbit, lots of fantasy, lots of glitter and even more of a curiousness of clever design than I have ever dared strech myself. I even glittered up a plain ole rose! Which is posted over at "52 Weeks of Crafts." Click on the CRAFTS tab at the top of the page to find out what I did.
There is so much in this mix that has meaning...the teacup is a gift from my cousin Kimberly from her trip to England many, many moons ago, the white chicken is from my Grammy Betty, who has since passed, the Carousel Horse was a gift from my mother who has since passed, the blue plate in the far back has a scene from Peter Rabbit, it was a baby gift from my mother in law. I love how the mix came together. I know it might be a lot going on for a lot of you...but this is the Mad Hatter's Tea Party afterall...so the mix is suppose to be a little crazy.
One of my absolute favorite pieces in this mix is the lower little blue dish. My grammy bequeathed that to me as well. This year, I mixed up my Easter Tree...I used the same white branches from last year then added the glittery little branches to encourage the feel of fantasy.
A closer look at the Easter Tree. I took this one before I added the other pieces to the mix (ie. the blue plate...the fur...etc). I am on a mission to find little pink twinkling lights...I think the lights would add to the feel of the tea party.
I had a lot of fun putting this together.
