Beautiful Blogging

Christmas week happend to be much busier than I would have anticipated. I have quite a few friends visiting from other states. It has been fun getting together with them and their children. We have been enjoying our kids play together.

Oddly, a few of our conversations turned toward blogging. One of the questions was...why do people blog? What is the reason? It got me thinking about why do I blog? One of my many reasons for purchasing a laptop was to have an electronic journal. When I started electronic journaling it was all via Word. Then I heard about Live Journal via a friend...Melanie...I thought it was inspiring to read about her life, get to know her and be able to email her what I thought about what she wrote, then in 2005 I heard about blogging. I had no idea what it was all about. I started reading all kinds of random blogs from all over the country. I was blown away by all the amazing crafty, family, fun blogs that were out there. I would stay up late at night reading about strangers from around the world. I would leave comments sometimes, cry at someone's news that a family member had cancer, laugh about some kid's antics or a mom's frustration. I could relate on so many levels. It somehow made me feel like I was not alone. Other people from around the world were dealing with life very much like me. I just loved that somehow their blog made me feel like I could make something, share about a personal family matter or commiserate about mommyhood.

In 2007 I started blogging. Random posts...sometimes it was about the boys, sometiems it was about a current event, politics or mommyhood. In 2009 I decided to make my blog only about mommyhood, crafts and food. I do not write about anything else. I am learning that when it comes to my personal views on life, I would rather share those things face to face, and then, only to those I trust. I do not blog to make others feel like my life is more important than theirs, or that I can make something better, or that I am any more busy than they are (most likely if you are not blogging it could be that your life is much busier than mine...or that you are getting more sleep than I am...lol).

For me, blogging is an outlet. At first, it started as a way to memorlize the year for the boys (there are sites where you can upload your blog and turn it into a book)and still is, very much, that. However, I have found that I can share a thought, a recipe or a craft idea and it inspires, or it creates a conversation, in turn, someone lets me in on a new recipe or craft idea. I love that! I love that we can all share an idea that makes our domistic life a little better. I love that I can write about what is going on in my life, then a far away friend can read about it and the next time we chat on the phone they are all caught up.

If anything, it is my hope that whatever I write, it is meaningful, kind and inspring and in no way makes someone feel less. I would hope that my blog would open the door for others to write their own blog and share their life with me. I love that we are all connected through art, food and crafts.

Thanks to all those who read my silly posts, have ordered my fiber crafts and have left their kind comments. I am looking forward to another year of blogging and crafting. I can't wait to see where 2010 is going to lead me. I also hope to read new blogs in 2010 from friends who decide to join the blogging family. Happy Beautiful, Blogging.

It's so funny that you'd blog about this. I was just thinking about it the other day, wondering if I really was saying something meaningful, or just working out my day, or being completely and utterly narcissistic by blogging. I know that I get them printed every year, and someday hope to give them to my son, but at the same time- I wonder. I hope that my blogging reaches a heart, or a mind, or even a soul...
In the end, I've realized that it's probably a little bit of all of the above.
I'm glad you blog! I love reading about your life with the boys. It's refreshing to see a happy family. :)

Thanks Mel. In part I owe it to you. I would have never found the blogging world as soon as I did otherwise. It is a medium that I am happy to say exists. It is a wonderful way to connect. It is my online community. Happy New Year, friend. xoC
