Tasks & Tracy

I am leaving on a 4 day trip starting tomorrow to New Mexico. I have a girlfriend who lives there. We have known each other for over 20 years and have been good friends for at least 15 years. Back in my single days getting ready for a trip was a piece of cake. These days of husband and kids it takes me at least a week of planning to get out the door for any kind of trip.

Today will be consumed with little tasks...laundry, check, clean out frig, check, make sure there is enough food for the boys to eat for four days, check, make sure Jett has his homework done and blue folder ready to return to school, check, make sure babysitter and carpool is ready for tomorrow morning, check, check, check, & more checks! Whew! By the time I am sitting on the airplane tomorrow I will be double checking my list making sure I did not forget anything, praying that all will run smoothly in my absence. I really do feel like I run a small company. I am at the helm running this "family business" of being a family. When I leave the helm I always feel a little guilty, excited and yes, I worry a little.

The List!

Command Central! Does anyone else have a refrigerator that looks like this? Or is it just me?

Last night I had a crafty project to do for a friend. She needed some name place tags for her dinner party she is having on Saturday night. I love they way they turned out.

Here is what you need if you want to do these. They would be perfect for Thanksgiving place settings.

Card Stock Paper
Stamps, or stickers
Colored Pens
Wine Corks
Toothpicks
Hot Glue Gun and Glue

Cut your card stock paper in whatever shape you wish. I used some scrapbook scissors that I had. The blades are scalloped. Then I stamped the card, wrote the person's name, then hot glued the toothpicks to the back of the card. Allow for a few minutes of drying time. I then cut little slits in each of the corks so that it would be easier to push the toothpick through. After the sticks dried I then pushed them into the corks. Voila! If wanted you can also, forego the toothpicks all together and cut the slits in the corks deep enough to place the card directly into the slit.

I also forgot to post the new Birthday Banner that I made last month. I have wanted a Birthday Banner for awhile. I saw one while I shopping in Paso Robles, CA this past spring and they wanted $35.00 for it. NO WAY! Was I going to pay $35.00 for something I can make myself. Hence the Banner and more to come...already working on my Christmas Banner. Here are the results:

Cut off the "Y" from HAPPY.

The rest of the Banner.

I don't have time today but as soon as I get my craft blog started I will post how I did this. I still need to tweak it a little bit. Overall, I love how it turned out.

Lastly, I am going to give a shout out to my latest inspiration, Tracy Porter. She has a new radio show starting today from 2pm-3pm (central time) if you can, tune in. I am a huge fan. I love how she throw things together and emphasizes imperfection! As a busy mother of two very active boys and an adventurous husband, "perfect" has been erased from my vocabulary. I no longer can be picky about things...imperfections have their own magical powers, they are ones that I too, emphasize.

Happy Wednesday.
