I asked Jettson what he wanted to do today and he reponded with "nothing, just stay home." That is just what we have done. It is nice to just stay home and not have to rush off anywhere. My first reaction was, "no, way...we need to go, we need to do!" However, when does one "get" to stay home and just "do" and "be?" So, here we are, my boys and I, hanging around in our jammies, just "being."
Of course, my idea of "doing nothing" and the boys' idea of "doing nothing" is quite opposite. The boys want to wrestle, watch Spongebob and play Star Wars Leggos. My idea of "doing nothing" is reading, crocheting (trying to get some little projects done, in order to move on the bigger ones), cooking, blogging, crafting and baking. We have done a little of each today.
Projects in bags waiting to be finished and passed on to their rightful owners.
I got adventerous and made homemade tortillas, they were nothing like my grammy's but they were not half bad. I think with a little more practice they might be more like "real" tortillas.
Tortillas!
Can't have tortilla's without a pot of beans to go along with them.
mmm...how's that for a yummy November dinner!
Then I got rather crafty. This is not an original idea (but then...is there really an original idea?). I am into repurposing. It is the magic fairy in me. I love that something really can turn into something else. So here is what I did...
I gathered about 5 paper grocery bags...
Got out scissors & masking tape. Cut the handles off, then proceeded to cut the paper bag till it laid flat.
Then I taped all the bags together till it fit the top of my dinning room table.
Viola! An instant table top canvas! I drew individual placemats for each of us. Plus, the boys can draw away while they wait for their meals or after dinner when they get antsy. When you are done with it, just peel it off and throw it away.
This is a great way to use paper grocery bags. The other thing I like to use paper grocery bags for is, wrapping paper. I especially like the look at Christmas time with red raffia ribbon tied around the packages. It makes you feel like the paper bag got it's full use!
I just love lazy days.

I totally do the paper bag table top when I do big seafood bucket dinners! It's great, and I usually have that around more readily these days than newspapers.
I have used newspaper in the past for projects but it get so messy with ink. Yeah. I usually have more paper bags readily than newspaper. Our local grocery store told us that within the next year or so they will no longer be offering paper or plastic bags as the State will be charging them a bag tax. So I am stocking up on free paper bags while I can!
