Ah...my funny and beloved, Jettson. He is just the funniest kid...and not just because he is my kid...truly he is a crack up...Here's the story---
Very early yesterday morning (3 am to be exact) Jettson came into my room because he had a scary nightmare. He was awake for 3 hours, which meant I was awake for 3 hours. He finally fell alseep around 6am...there was no way we were going to make it to school so I kept him home. When we finally got up and got going I asked him what his nightmare was all about. Lately, he has been watching "Jumanji" and "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" both are a little scary for a 6 year old but there is not really anything "scary" in either movie (I have watched both movies with him) it's all very suggestive but not scary. I remember the Chocolate Factory kinda creeping me out when I was kid but it was so overshadowed by all the candy, that I would soon forget that there was anything creepy about it.
In any event...in Jett's nightmare he was in Willy Wonka's chocolate factory and a Venus Fly trap was about to eat him, he was able to use his karate skills and karate chop the fly traps' vine loose from his legs! At which point he came to my bed.
Later in the afternoon, we called my Aunt Arlene (Jett calls her "Nana") he proceeded to tell her all about his nightmare. My aunt told him all about the powers of "Monster Juice" she told him if he drank some monster juice before bed that nightmares would stay away.
Right before karate class Jett asked if he could start drinking Monster Juice, so I poured him a glass of apple juice...when I gave it to him he said, "that's not monster juice that's just apple juice." I stood corrected...so I added a maraschino cherry with a little of the cherry juice and that seemed to do the trick.
Here's the kicker to this story---
When we got to karate class...I left Jett in the dojo while I chased after Owen in the foyer. Our friends were in the dojo watching the kids...my friend came out to tell me this story... the Master asked this question "So what did everyone do today?" Jett raised his hand and said, "Well, I had a vodka cherry before I came to karate class to chase away the monsters!" the whole class including parents erupted in laughter, another parent whispered to my girlfriend, "well I've heard of giving your kid medicine but not vodka...I must be doing something wrong!"
Later that night.... Jettson again asked for "vodka and cherry monster drink" (think I might have to come up with a new drink)....I laughed so hard...and told him it's just called monster juice and it's made with apple juice, cherries and cherry juice, NOT VODKA! I aksed him where he got this idea from, he just shurgged his shoulders and with the cutest little face said "I dunno...it just sounded like you said, here's your vodka and cherry drink!" hahah....crazy kid.
I had to remind him gently this morning that when he is at school today and anyone asks him what he did yesterday not to say he had a vodka and cherry!
